Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer

Location: Leipzig

Job responsibilities：

1. Compliance & Regulations

• Monitor and ensure full compliance with German and EU EHS laws (e.g., ArbSchG, ArbStättV, GefStoffV, BImSchG).
• Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities (e.g., Gewerbeaufsichtsamt, Berufsgenossenschaft).
• Coordinate and support governmental inspections, audits, and the implementation of resulting corrective actions.

2.Environmental Management

• Maintain and improve environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
• Oversee waste management, hazardous substances, emissions, and environmental permits.
• Conduct environmental impact assessments and prepare mandatory reporting.

3. Occupational Health & Safety

• Establish and continuously improve occupational health and safety management systems (e.g. ISO 45001)
• Conduct risk assessments (Gefährdungsbeurteilung)
• Investigate occupational accidents and near-miss incidents; define corrective and preventive actions
• Develop and implement emergency response plans and safe operating procedures

4. Training & Safety Culture

• Deliver EHS training programs for employees and management (safety, environmental protection, emergency response)
• Promote EHS awareness and foster a strong safety culture across the organization
• Support EHS onboarding training for new employees

5. Internal Support

• Support factories, engineering, production, and project teams in meeting EHS compliance requirements
• Participate in EHS assessments for new equipment, processes, and projects
• Regularly report EHS KPIs and risk status to managemen

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years’ EHS-related work experience in Germany (manufacturing or plant environment preferred)
• Solid knowledge of German and EU EHS legislation and regulatory requirements
• Fluent German (minimum B2 required) and good command of English
• Ability to independently conduct risk assessments and internal EHS audits

Preferred

• Relevant EHS certifications (e.g. Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit, SiGeKo, ISO Auditor)
• Experience in establishing or auditing ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 management systems
• Experience working in multinational or cross-cultural corporate environments
• Familiarity with industries such as new energy, battery manufacturing, chemicals, or heavy industry
