Volkswagen FAW Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. (VWED) is a Sino-German joint venture company co-founded by Volkswagen (China) Investment Company Ltd. and China FAW Group Co., Ltd.
The company is headquartered in the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Dalian, occupying an area of nearly 200,000 sq. m. For the production of the EA888 turbocharged direct injection petrol engine, it was completed and put into production in 2007. Since the company was put into operation in March 2007, its production capacity has increased rapidly to 300,000 in February 2011. In August 2013 VWED built a new plant in Changchun with the planned production capacity of 450,000. In 2022, the company is motivated to make additional investments and continue to improve the quality of personnel and the operational efficiency of the equipment on the basis of continuous improvement, the annual planning capacity is expected to exceed one million.
Moreover, VWED has become a pilot company for remanufacturing. The project was brought into operation in Dalian in 2011. The company is now the only Volkswagen-Group production base for engine remanufacturing in China.
The launch of iTEC (Integrated Test and Engineering Center) in September 2014 marks the important transition of VWED from a production plant into a comprehensive enterprise.
