职位描述

The mission of Tesla Materials Engineering organization is to facilitate accelerating the world to sustainable transportation via delivering new materials and manufacturing processes that revolutionize Tesla’s products.

THE ROLE

The team is seeking an intern in Materials Engineering who can devote the efforts into “Engineering Materials”. The intern should be prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of materials engineering and product development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

For a materials engineering intern, there is no real boundaries for the area that you can join. However, based on your background, one of the following function areas may be selected:

Function A: Materials Engineering

Define and Develop Materials and Processes via a thorough understanding of the “Process – Structure – Properties” relationships. By breaking down requirements to fundamental physics you will learn, understand and develop materials and models for your given areas of expertise, be it polymer chemistry related or thermodynamic / Metal associated, or something else similar.

You are expected to have rigorous logic and flexibly combining/using different analysis methods to achieve objectives, showing independently innovating design, or simplifying material structures & performance analysis methods and prove them.

You will be working in a team where a systems-based approach to ICME (integrated computational materials engineering) is considered a primary materials development approach, and as such you may be working on molecular dynamics, thermodynamic, thermo-mechanical and mechanical modelling including deformation, fracture, strain rate sensitivity and solidification for numerous materials. The work will be for existing materials as well as novel materials and will use both existing modelling methods as well as developing new innovative ones where needed.

You are expected to be a bridging role between material designers and prototyping/ characterization through appropriate modelling and experimentation.

Function B: Material Test

Characterize both metal and polymer materials, pre and post fabrication, using a variety of techniques, such as: optical microscopy, SEM/ EDS, mechanical test, FTIR, TGA/ DSC, TD-GCMS, any aging equipment…etc.

Objectively design and execute experiments for prototyping and problem-solving material and process development activities based on engineering theory, whilst maximizing efficiencies and value add for lab testing workflows.

Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by developing, defining and executing on robust new test methods. This may also include the procurement and installation of new equipment (with support from more senior engineers).

Function C: Fastener Engineering

Mechanical Design of Fasteners and Joints either directly in CAD (Catia) and/ or simulation or theoretical calculations and analysis for both new and existing products.

Coordinate and develop validation processes of fasteners and joints to ensure that fasteners and joints achieve the outcomes expected from the products.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master's candidate or above in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Electrical and Semiconductor Materials, Physics, Chemical Applications, Macromolecule, or Mechanical Engineering. PhD candidate preferred.

• Solid background and knowledge in various material properties and process-structure-properties understanding. Proficient in basic theoretical knowledge (Thermodynamics, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics…etc.).

• Familiar with material structure/ performance analysis or characterization equipment operation principles, familiar with how to process data, covering fields including but not limited to structure, thermodynamics, chromatography, mechanics, apparent properties… etc.

• ICME tools (Thermo-calc, CALPHAD, CAE...etc) , programming abilities such as Python preferred

• Excellent innovation ability demonstrated in making and breaking things.

• Experience of working with materials lab test equipment and hazardous materials.

• Must be able to effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, meet deadlines, and manage time independently.

• Good communication and presentation abilities.
