Legal Counsel, Data Compliance
THE ROLE
The Legal Counsel will support Tesla China in multiple areas related to data protection and others. By working closely with business team to fulfil their various targets, this role shall ensure the compliance of Tesla data protection. This position, as part of the Tesla China Legal team, is based in Giga3 Factory, Lingang, Shanghai and reports directly to the Head of China Legal.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Make policies for Tesla China’s data security and management, and work with business team to ensure the policies is in place
• Assess data compliance risks in all business lines, products and services and recommend risk mitigation strategies
• Drive the implementation of data compliance and operational risk management processes across Tesla China
• Oversee the development and delivery of data compliance training programs
• Work closely with business team to identify weakness in the Company’s data compliance program
• Keep abreast of regulatory developments related to data to identify the potential impact to Tesla’s business.
• Advise on various legal matters related to data compliance
• Act as a business partner to support the achievement of business goals
• Perform other related duties as assigned, based on the business need
REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of 10 years with a top tier law firm or other in-house position, with rich experience in data protection and compliance.
• Qualification in the PRC with solid working knowledge of PRC laws in the aforementioned subject areas.
• Excellent academic credentials from top-ranked law school.
• Native Mandarin speaker, plus fluency in oral and written English.
• Strong capability in writing will be a must.
• Overseas education and/or work experience preferred.
• Strong command of the details of relevant laws and regulations but with an ability to make matters understandable and actionable for Tesla management.
• Well-organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral communication skills, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
• Efficient work habits with a hands-on approach.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
• Must possess strong inter-personal and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.
• Desire to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
• A creative problem solver who is open to new ideas and new approaches.
