Our client is a German family-owned company and a leading manufacturer (a typical German "Hidden Champion") of special measurement instruments. For its factory in Changzhou, China, we are looking for a Operation Manager (Plant Manager, Factory Manager).

Operation Manager (Plant/Factory Manager, 厂长)

Duties   

a.     Strategic development
 - develop 3-5 year growth perspective (together with BoD)
 - annual planning, budgeting
 - Development new products (together with German headquarter)
 - Introduction, ramp up of new products

b.     Day to day management of the production facility
 - Management of the assembly lines (one shift, currently 25 workers) with all related matters (personnel, procurement etc.)
 - Quality assurance (see below)
 - Ramp up of production capacity
 - Permanent productivity improvements

 

c.     Supervision of the engineering
 - Redesign engineering process to the German PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) standards
 - Ensure compliance to requirement specifications, strict release management, strict test routines, adherence to timelines, quality,
 - Regular, consistent, unambiguous communication to and interaction with German headquarter staff
 - Enable production introduction of new products without any timing, performance or quality compromises
 - Enable continuity and know-how development in the engineering department, e.g. by regular personnel exchange with headquarter

 

d.     Quality assurance: Introduction and management of a hard-line quality management system both for production and engineering
 - Incoming goods inspection, in particular from local Chinese vendors
 - Quality assurance within production
 - Outgoing goods inspection
 - 8D (Eight Disciplines of Problem Solving) error rout cause analysis and corrective actions
 - Strict adherence to German PLM and quality standards in the engineering department

 

e.     Exchange with German headquarter
 - Weekly video conference
 - Monthly forecast planning with German headquarter
 - On demand communication
 - At least one personal visit in Germany per year
 - Every 2-3 months a one-week visit of German experts (e.g. Product Management, Quality, Engineering) to Changzhou (after Corona restrictions)

1.  Targets/Measures

  - Quality of both production and engineering
  - Output, sales, productivity, EBIT of production
  - Growth enabling, i.e. doubling of sales every 3-4 years

 

2.  Qualification/Background

 - Engineering or similar degree
 - 3-5 years working experience in an international manufacturing environment in China (preferable at German factory) with measurable results
 - 3-5 years of working experience within quality department, engineering, production planning, manufacturing line management or similar with measurable results
 - Clear leadership potential
 - Solid English knowledge (speech and read/writing)
