CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CRRC ZELC) is based along the bank of Xiangjiang River, Hunan Province，China，adjacent to Beijing-Guangzhou Railway Line and Shanghai-Kunming Railway Line. Taking up an area of 2.25km2, CRRC ZELC is a key subsidiary under CRRC Corporation Limited, China’s largest research and manufacturing base of electric locomotives and the leading enterprise among Hunan rail transportation industry cluster with investment of hundreds of billions of RMB Yuan, enjoying the reputation of “Hometown of China’s Electric Locomotives”. Founded in 1936, CRRC ZELC has been maintaining a steady, rapid and healthy development momentum and setting a lot of new records in China’s railway transport equipment industry. CRRC ZELC has built a comprehensive portfolio covering electric locomotives, mass transit vehicles, intercity EMUs, Maglev trains, super-capacitor trams/trolley buses, key parts and components, extended products with know-how and MRO services. In the field of electric locomotives, since China’s first electric locomotive was born in 1958, CRRC ZELC has developed 51 types of mainline electric locomotives for rapid passenger transit, dual-purpose transport, heavy-duty freight transport and so on, totaling 8,100 locomotives, which enables us to hold 60% of domestic market. We have taken the lead in the transition from common load to heavy load and from DC drive to AC drive, and developed the world’s most powerful electric locomotives. All the outstanding achievement has set us as one of the technology leaders globally. In the field of mass transit vehicles, we have set up the design and manufacturing platforms for high-grade aluminum alloy and stainless steel mass transit vehicles in merely over ten years, offering products of A type and B type in three speed levels of 80km/h, 100km/h and 120km/h, and becoming an outstanding representative of China’s high-end mass transit equipment industry. As of 2014, we have supplied 7,000 vehicles for 16 cities worldwide, and ranked No. 1 in the domestic market. We have built the manufacturing and maintenance plants in 10 cities worldwide, making every effort to establish a life-cycle MRO system for mass transit vehicles. In the field of EMUs, with the design and manufacturing experience in mass transit vehicles, proven platforms and the unique local supply chain, we have successively developed Blue Arrow, Midland Star and China Star with speed ranging from 160km/h to 270km/h in power-distributed mode or power-concentrated mode. CRRC ZELC is the birthplace of EMU technologies in China. In the past few years, we have succeeded in exporting our EMUs to overseas market.
We are the pioneer of China’s Go-out Strategy in equipment industry. With superior quality, reliable performance and outstanding contract execution capability, we have gained extensive recognition among the global customers. Since the first export order of China’s electric locomotives in 1997, CRRC ZELC has been granted nearly 30 orders in Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Turkey, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Ethiopia, Macedonia and Serbia. The exported products include locomotives, metro vehicles, LRVs, EMUs and metro engineering maintenance vehicles, with total contract amount worth 30 billion yuan. We have taken more than 80% of rail transit market in Malaysia, and supplied the world’s fastest meter-gauge EMUs tailored to the customer’s requirement, putting a stamp on the image of Kuala Lumpur. The award of South Africa electric locomotive contracts worth 2.1 billion dollars created the biggest export record in China’s railway transport equipment industry. The EMU contract signed with Macedonia marks the breakthrough of China’s EMUs exported to Europe. Meanwhile, we have set up subsidiaries in Malaysia, South Africa, Turkey, India and Austria to push forward internationalized operation. During the visit in CRRC ZELC, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang praised that our products are the Go-out representative of China’s equipment industry.
We have been focusing on the customer’s needs, targeted at green and intelligent development. With decades of technical experience in railway transport equipment industry, we are gearing up for new industries, and three industrial directions have been guided, i.e. service extension, industrial chain extension and technical extension, taking maintenance, super-capacitor and maglev as representatives respectively. We have operated modern 4S shops for integrated services of rail transit vehicles in Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Kunming and so on, achieving the transition of business mode from product output to “Manufacturing + Services” output. China’s first middle-and-low speed maglev train for commercial service designed and produced by CRRC ZELC had been put into pilot run in Changsha by the end of 2015. We have developed independently the super-capacitor cells with high specific energy, and innovated to use super-capacitors as drive unit for modern tram and trolley bus, which have drawn the attention of the world and will bring a revolutionary transition of urban public transit. In the mean time, we are moving forward with the development of APM, Sky Train, suburban commuter train, regenerative brake system and other new technical products.
